Do you want to get your cat safely outside for lea Do you want to get your cat safely outside for leash walks so they can get more exercise and activity? Here are 5 steps you need to take: Step 1: Harness Train your cat Pick a harness that makes it easy to train. My favorite: The vest style. It’s safe and does not need to go over your cat’s head so it’s easier to train. Step 2: Teach your cat to walk on a leash indoors with clicker training! Your cat should understand how to change directions and respond to their name. Step 3: Get your equipment ready. You need a backpack, treats your cat loves and your cat must wear a tracking device. Step 4: Plan your exit strategy. I recommend keeping your front door open so your cat can observe the outdoor environment and stay inside. NEVER pick up your cat to take them outside; your cat needs to be in control. Step 5: Prepare for emergencies: Ensure your cat is comfortable in their backpack and can be picked up if you see an off-leash dog.
